Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cold butter or margarine
1 egg
1 cup milk

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Cut in butter until crumble. Combine egg and milk; stir into crumb mixture just until moistened.
  2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10-15 times. Roll out to 1-in. thickness; cut with a 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
